New York has recently seen a number of cyber attacks targeting government agencies and media organizations.

Attack on New York City Government: In 2024, the New York City government suffered a "smishing" (SMS phishing) attack that sent fraudulent messages to employees. Following the incident, the city payroll website had to be temporarily taken offline.

Attack on New York State Legislature: In April 2024, the New York State Legislature was subjected to a cyber attack in which sensitive financial information of 710 New York residents, such as driver's license numbers, credit card information, and Social Security numbers, was obtained by hackers.

Attack on The New York Times: In 2016, hackers linked to Russian intelligence launched cyber attacks targeting journalists at The New York Times and other US news organizations.

These incidents have highlighted the importance of cybersecurity and emphasized the need to strengthen digital security measures in New York.
