 New Orleans truck attack 

On January 1, 2025, a terrorist attack on Bourbon Street in New Orleans killed 15 people and injured dozens. The attacker, 42-year-old Shamsud-Din Bahar Jabbar, a US Army veteran, opened fire after driving a truck into a crowd. He was shot dead by police on the spot. An ISIS flag was found in his truck, leading to an investigation into his ties to ISIS.

Those killed in the attack included a nursing student, a father of two, a Superdome employee, and a college football star.

The same day, a Tesla Cybertruck exploded outside the Trump Hotel in Las Vegas, killing 37-year-old US Army veteran Matthew Livelsberger. Livelsberger and Jabbar both served at the same military base, leading to an investigation into possible links between the two incidents.

President Biden condemned the New Orleans attack, calling it terrorism and vowing to not tolerate such violence.
